How Regenerative Medicine Can Speed Your Recovery

Recovery can be a long, slow process where your body needs time, as well as other resources, to heal. Whether you were in an accident, injured yourself some other way, or had surgery that requires a long recovery, your body may need help speeding the healing process along and allowing you to get better, faster. This is where regenerative medicine comes in.

At Northview Medical, our nurse practitioner Stephanie Speetzen provides regenerative medicine services, which can be performed in-office as outpatient procedures. Let us help you get back on your feet with these effective treatments for a speedy recovery.

How regenerative medicine works

At our office, we provide two different types of regenerative medicine. They include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and mesenchymal stem cells. The first of these is associated with the use of the patient’s own blood, which is drawn, placed inside a centrifuge, and then harvested for its PRP. After the PRP is processed, it has five to 10 times more platelets than it originally did. When injected into the damaged site, the PRP helps promote healing and increases recovery speed with its natural growth factors. What’s more, the PRP comes from your own body so there is very little chance of rejection or infection.

As for mesenchymal stem cells, we use stem cells from the umbilical cords of full-term babies. Each of these umbilical cords is fully tested for its healing factors. Stem cells can be used to create different types of tissue that are otherwise extremely difficult and/or take a long time to form, such as bone and cartilage. The stem cells are used to reconstruct tissue that has been damaged so your body can heal faster. Still, they are an all-natural product that will stimulate your own body’s inherent ability to heal you.

The truth about regenerative medicine

Many people are skeptical at first about the option of regenerative medicine and wonder whether or not these procedures can truly help them heal faster. According to a 2019 study published in the medical journal Cells, the use of mesenchymal stem cells has been shown to be an extremely effective option of regenerative medicine. Another study from 2019 published in the medical journal Clinical Orthopedics and Trauma details a comprehensive outline for the management of knee osteoarthritis with regenerative treatments (like mesenchymal stem cells and platelet-rich plasma) and how the PRP can increase the speed and efficiency of stem cell therapy.

Regenerative medicine is backed by scientific research and offers patients a chance to heal more quickly in a way that is proven, safe, and effective. Regenerative medicine speeds your healing process by providing you with the tools your body needs to heal, all of which come from a place of natural materials and processes.
